Visual NDT

testing

The oldest and most common nondestructive testing techniques. At some point, all NDT methods fall back on VT. It is used for detect the external defects which are located in the components, welds etc. by using naked eye or with optical aids.

Liquid Penetrant

Testing

LPT is based on capillarity or capillary attraction, where a liquid is able to flow into narrow spaces without the assistance of – or even in opposition to – external forces such as gravity.

This method is used to find surface defects and is not limited to ferrous material. LPT does not require any power source, it is a highly portable and efficient method, generally used where MPT cannot be applied.  For turbine blades, turbine wheels, welding etc.

Magnetic Particle

Testing

Mainly used to identify surface and near surface defects and applicable to only ferrous materials. Inspection of steel butt weld is very popular using this method. Other applicationsincludes bolts thread inspection and also propeller shaft, piston head, turbine and turbine shaft, valves etc.

Eddy Current

Testing

Eddy-current testing (also commonly seen as eddy current testing and ECT) is one of many electromagnetic testing methods used in nondestructive testing making use of electromagneticinduction to detect and characterize surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials.

Ultrasonic Testing

& Measurement

Ultrasonic Testing is a method of characterizing the thickness or internal structure ofa test object (sub-surface defects) through the use of high frequency sound waves.

Its typical application is a task of material integrity approval, e.g. manufactured semi products(sheets, forging or casting) or welds.Further it can be used for the corrosion mapping (Thickness measurement) of pipe lines, pressure vessels, boilers, gas and fuel storage tanks etc.
